Welcome to Winter - A Tale of a Sled Head

by: dave norona

If you’re a motor head like me but have yet to discover the winter sport of Snowmobiling then get out there and try it!

It was four seasons ago since I laid down some cash for a used 2003 Ski-Doo ZX 800 Summit. My friend Joel showed me the ropes and after the first day of getting stuck and some good face shots I was hooked. That season I put on 2500km by January and purchased a used 2005 Ski-doo Rev 800 as I just had to have one! I put another 2500km on that machine before my first season was over and have never looked back.

This year I took the plunge and thanks to Greg at Greater Vancouver PowerSports (www.gvps.ca) and their kind staff I walked out of their showroom with a brand spanking new REV-XP 146 800. Well the beginning of the season has been tough with little snow then almost too much making for some serious avy conditions. However, we have gotten out plenty, skiing off the machine and roooopppping it up in the deep over the last few days.

Sledding is so much fun and a great way to enjoy the outdoors in the wintertime. Just like dirt biking, every day out is an adventure and that is what I love most about these sports. The similarities don’t stop there either. The people that you will meet are some of the nicest people around and are eager to help out a new rider.  Contrary to what most people think sledding is a hard physical sport just like dirt biking so it is a great way to expand your horizons and learn something new.

I spend about half my time rippin on the sled and the other half sled/skiing or ski touring off the machine with my awesome girlfriend Kim!

If you would like to know more about sleds and what to get then check out the “Choosing a Sled” article I wrote. Remember to play hard but play safe!
