Gone Camping!!

Beautiful BC has so much to offer! This past weekend Kim and I headed up to one of our favorite spots - Onion Lake, near Lytton BC. This place sits at 4000 feet and offers magnificent views in every direction. One of the coolest views is of the Coastal Mountain Range as it divides with the Fraser River. On one side lies the sharp distinct peaks that surround Whistler & Blackcomb Mountains, and on the other the high alpine rolling mountains that continue north for what seems like forever.

This area is our favorite for another reason as it is littered with over 200km of single track moto trails that twist and turn up every mountain nearby. And at each mountain top a unique picturesque view is offered.

We met up with some friends who we met a year before in this same area and were joined by Steve Mitchell and friends from Victoria. This was going to be an epic weekend of riding and more riding and then just sittin' back with a cold one at the end of the day next to the fire.

The coolest part of these trails is that they were designed by a super cool dude with a chainsaw on his bike. These are not just scars in the forest floor. These are works of art that are named and have pieces of art work along the way to make things entertaining. For instance, as you make your way up to the Museum Trail at 6500 feet, you are pinning it up some steep section and then out of the blue is a big sign jutting out of a tree that has a big phone on it and says '1 km'. If you are brave enough to be looking out for it, sure enough, 1 km later you notice a telephone hanging off a tree. Does it work? I have never stopped to see, but it takes your mind off the massive loose rocky climb that you're just makin up!

After several big loops on Saturday and Sunday, our posse hit a cool trail called Fram Filter. This trail makes you feel like you are in a filter as it zigs and zags throughout the forest floor. It is so cool. Then all of a sudden you arrive at a Covered Bridge (Photo at Right) The bridge is called ‘Gorillas in the Mist'. It also has a sign that says ‘big uphill ahead' and has a place to warm your tires for the big hill. As you cross the bridge there are two spots for your feet and a metal section for your tire to burn out on. The sound that emulates from this bridge is awesome and then you proceed out of the bridge and are faced with two selections. The ‘FOO-FOO Gorilla Trail' or the ‘Strong Manly Gorilla Trail', which goes straight up for about 60 feet. Hey man I don't wanna be called a FOO-FOO so I grabbed second gear and pulled as hard as I could. The bike shot skyward and all I could do is hang on as I was spat out at the top yelling out a big Ya-HOO!!!

Can't wait to go camping again! Carry on lit'l D
